Dimensioning Approaches for an Access Link Assuring Integrated QoS
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper proposes some model-based alternatives for the solution of dimensioning an access link that conveys a mixture of realtime and elastic traffic. The novel feature of the proposed provisioning approaches is that the bandwidth they provision assures simultaneously packet-level QoS for realtime traffic and flow-level QoS for elastic traffic. This is achieved by appropriately adapting and combining packet-level and flow-level analytical models. Simulation is performed to demonstrate the operation of the proposed approaches.

Fun Factor Dimensioning for Elastic Traffic
In this paper we argue that dimensioning for elastic traffic can be achieved in some network scenarios. The “fun factor” is introduced as a basic measure of perceived quality of service (QoS) for elastic traffic. As the impact of on the perceived QoS is easy to see, target values for for residential or business network access can be quantified. Several existing models for dimensioning data netw...
متن کاملA Method and Simulation Study: Network Dimensioning of the Broadband Residential Ethernet-based Access Network
Network dimensioning is an indispensable component of QoS provisioning in the residential multi-service IPbased access networks. This paper discusses network dimensioning of the residential multi-service IP-based access networks over Ethernet thoroughly, i.e. a Broadband Residential Ethernet-Based Access Network (BREAN), and tries to find a pragmatic engineering method of network dimensioning. ...

1 Network link dimensioning using packet sampling Question: Can we use sampled traffic data to accurately estimate link required capacity? Description: Network operators use link dimensioning procedures to correctly provision their links so that Quality of Service (QoS) metrics are met. In practice, they use simplistic approaches such as adding a rule-of-thumb safety margin to the traffic avera...
متن کاملImproving Quality of Service Routing in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks Using OLSR
Mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) are constructed by mobile nodes without access point. Since MANET has certain constraints, including power shortages, an unstable wireless environment and node mobility, more power-efficient and reliable routing protocols are needed. The OLSR protocol is an optimization of the classical link state algorithm. OLSR introduces an interesting concept, the multipoint r...
متن کاملAccess network dimensioning for elastic traffic based on flow-level QoS
Abstract: Network dimensioning for circuit switched networks has long been a well understood problem. However, dimensioning for data traffic, which is by nature elastic, is still an area that is not very well developed. Some work has been recently published addressing data network dimensioning and the present paper presents a survey on these. In our opinion, robustness of the used network model...
